What is Color ?
What is Color
You look at the blue sky and feel mesmerized. The same blue sky turns Redding during sunset. amazing!!
Sometimes this question comes in our mind, what exactly is this “ Blue “ or this “ Red “. What is “ Color “ actually ?
Well color is nothing but Light. This can be reflected light or emitted.
Some objects have their own Light, they emit light. For example, the sun is emitting light, the screen of your Computer or Mobile is emitting light. You can see them in the dark.
Some objects don't have their own light, they just reflect light. Most of the things around us are reflecting light. Like, an apple looks red because when sun Light gets on the apple it absorbs some light and reflecting only “red” lights. Or your T-shirt is green because your T-shirt is absorbing most of the sunlight and reflecting only “ green “ color. Interesting thing is, you can't see these objects in the absence of light. You can't see the apple or your T-shirt in the dark
Now comes to the questions of Color. Different Lights have different Wavelength ( or frequency you can say ). Every specific Wavelength creates a different sensation in our brain. We named these specific sensation with “ Blue “ or “ Red “ etc. Just like when you bite an apple and a lemon you get different sensation in your brain. We named these sensations as “ Sweet “ and “ Sour “.
So color is basically how our brains perceive different Wavelengths of Light. Just like everything, this sensation too has a range. If the Wavelength of this wave is too low ( below 380 nm ) we can't feel anything. Or in common language We can't see it. We call it Ultraviolet ray. Similarly if the Wavelength is too high ( above 700 nm ) we call it Infrared. We can't see infrared either. In between them we see different colors for different Wavelengths. This range is called Visible Spectrum or Visible Range.
So this was Color
